The Importance of Flashpoint
One of the issues affecting the UK shipping industry at the moment is the supply shortage of marine gas oil. But is there a viable alternative? Inland gas oil is more readily available than marine gas oil, and often cheaper, but it is generally NOT permitted for use at sea. The reason for this is that marine gas oil and most inland gas oils have differing minimum flashpoints (60°C and 55°C respectively), i.e. the lowest temperature at which fuel can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air.

Ruth Runs a Marathon
The Sea Bunkering Accounts Department has produced its first marathon runner: Ruth Kenyon. The second Brighton Marathon took place on Sunday 10th April 2011 on a swelteringly hot sunny day. OPEC - Who cares?
OPEC is a cartel of competing oil producing nations that stabilises oil prices and regulates supply; When OPEC makes a major announcement, Sea Bunkering’s day-to-day business is directly affected.
But why is this? In our last newsletter, we explained how it is the actions of global market speculators that cause the day-to-day fluctuations in the price of oil, and affect our fuel prices to you. OPEC is one factor that influences the decisions of the speculators.

| Keep on trucking |
Did you know that, for the past two years, Sea Bunkering has offered a physical supply fuel service for our customers? Since 2007 we have operated our own tankers, one 29,000ltr and one 35,000ltr, in the South East region of the UK loading and delivering from anywhere between Ipswich and Poole. Both trucks are aligned to the Marpol regulations and their drivers are highly skilled personnel and, having worked in the marine industry for a number of years, know it very well.
